There is a new post out on HuffPost by Ramnath Suramanian, who is recruiting for his temple. It is at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ramnath-subramanian/substance-and-shadow-dist_b_874589.html#postComment

I've posted a complaining about his use of Steven Weinberg as an authority on religion. We will see if it makes it past the guardians:

Isn't it just irrational - and unscientific - to categorize such a vast category of people as believers in religion as hypocritical, nasty, unwashed, insufficiently appreciative of the subtle mysteries of string theory, or whatever? Its a bit like saying humans do bad things so all humans are bad.

Given that Weinberg is a scientist, and presumably thinks that issues should be researched, rather than just believing any old thing that comes to mind, shouldn't we hold him to higher standard? Give us data! Prove to us that all these people you disdain are worthy of your disdain! Prove to us that these billions of people are hypocrites!

Lacking that proof from Dr. Weinberg, why should we believe that his point of view is anything other than a horrid prejudice? "Physician, heal thyself" is the old adage. Well, I say, "scientist, study yourself."

Another comment from Huffpost:

Hi, e-boy. Not following your drift very well so let me answer your point with a bit of guesswork.

Is there substance to what Weinberg says about bad things happening in religion? You betcha! Does that lead to the conclusion that all religious folk are bad and hypocritical? No way, Jose. Let me illustrate in another context.

Dr. Mengele was definitely a scientist who was evil. Does that mean that all scientists are evil? Of course not. But this is the logic that Weinberg - and Harris - and Dawkins are using. Because some religious folks have done evil things - the recent Osama bin Laden comes to mind - all religious folk are evil.

What I'm saying is that if you are a scientist, prove your point scientifically. Otherwise, I'm going to take it on face value - it is simply a horrid prejudice.
